The Musical
The musical has been one of the best experiences I have had so far in transition year. If I’m being completely honest I didn’t think we were going to get its finished in time. We only started learning the dances with about three weeks to go and for one of the weeks Aisling wasn’t there. It was fun to see how everyone progressed and how everyone gained confidence as the days went by. I remember standing up and having to sing in front of everyone for this first time, I was so scared and nervous. After a week or two I started to gain confidence and I was fine with singing in front of people. The dances were very confusing at the start, I had no clue about what was going on, that was the same for everyone. Eventually I started to get into it and started to understand what was going on. I remember doing our first run through without the CD and instead with the piano, it was not the best to be honest. Although, Aisling and ms Olahan thought it was quite good for our first run through.
The last week was the most enjoyable week because everyone knew what they were doing and we were getting closer to the performances. The one thing I was dreading was the dress rehearsal in-front of the 6th years as I know most of them because of Paddy. The first show on Tuesday was very nerve raking but very exciting at the same time. I was still not used to the mics though, which was quite annoying as it kept putting me off, but by Thursday I was used to them. Thursday was by far my favourite day as we went to the J’s rugby match and when I got back to the school I ordered Dominoes. I was also not nervous for my part in the play which was nice. We were also all looking forward to the party after the musical was over which made the last night even better.
The musical was an amazing experience for me, it has increased my confidence it speaking and singing in-front of large groups of people. I don’t think I will be doing another musical, so I think I will remember this one for a very long time.
